One week to go!

Well goodness that time went VERY QUICKLY! Thank you everyone for your generous donations to date. We haven't yet reached our $5000 target but what we have raised is not to be sniffed at - and we are still working on it! We're running a raffle, having a picnic this Sunday, and selling biscuits left right and centre. We've done a few more big walks since the Spit walk - we've now covered the whole trail except for the first stage (which from memory is a cracker so that'll be a challenge!). Felicity and Bec did some beautiful walks in Kakadu too. Claire (on clinical placement for physio) has learnt some new stapping techniques for knees and ankles which we hopefully will have no need of; Clare and James both broke in their new walking shoes (to Gortex or not? is the midsole stiff enough? do I want toes on my socks?) ... and we're finalising support crew arrangements this weekend. Possibly a bit late, but better than never! Now to decide what kind of soup we want for supper at St Ives... Wish us luck! We'll be sending updates to this site on the day. xx

Spit to Manly

Our first walk as a team! 20km from The Spit to Manly and back - and back in time for basketball. Photo on it's way. Amused ourselves discussing who might (and might not) be willing to be support crew for the event, and speculating on the need for a No Sing playlist for the walk. Can't wait to spend a day making soup and pastries for film and soup night on Thursday, and we're also planning to hit up some fancy shops for raffle prizes. It does help to have inventive friends with bright suggestions!

Got a bit lost but not much...

post image

James and I did our first walk on the actual trail - and got a bit lost... Tricky things, maps. May also have had something to do with this bossy blonde woman who kept insisting we should just "follow the creek bed". James graciously said that if I hadn't butted in, we would simply have stood at the critical intersection and deliberated longer (before I butted in anyway), so really my impatience saved time. Beautiful national park mostly, and one b*stard hill at the end which I remembered in a rush of horror as soon as I set foot on it. But we got eat tuna and trailmix (not at the same time, ew) at the end of it, so all was well. Hope you like the pictures - James took them mostly when I wasn't looking. Now I know why he always likes to run behind me...

Royal National walk and brownies

Hello generous contributors and friends! James and I made a start on training last week with a little stroll in the Royal National Park. It was bee-ootiful: stunning highlights included a purple jellyfish on Garie Beach (purple like a Jolly Rancher), James getting his feet wet in the waves on Garie Beach (at the start of the walk...), peeing the bushes near Eagle Rock, looking at the wild ocean, and (I think James will agree) me singing extracts from 'My Fair Lady' and assorted show tunes on the way home. Anyone who's fond of the Royal may be interested to know the little kiosk by the creek/river is closing. Blame the guv'mint. In other news, we sold a box of brownies at Katy's work, and a box at a gig on Sunday night! Film night is in the works...

Well-meaning madness Pt1

Hello friends and family and colleagues! We know our page is boring at the moment but we promise to make it more interesting in the near future, with photos and updates about our training & fundraising adventures. (Isn't that how you spell fundraising? Spellcheck says no. I say yes.) If you have already made a donation, THANK YOU! If you're thinking about it, please do - it really is for a good cause (and tax-deductible to boot!). Donating makes you a better person. And cooler - WAY cooler.
