Commonwealth Private Bank 24 July
August18 Many thanks to those that attended the OxFam fundraiser last Weds. The event was a lot of fun and was kicked off by Jane Denning of the OxFam Australia Marketing and Organising Team. Congrats to the PCO team that won on the night and took the hamper. many thanks also to that team who raffled the Michael Hussey cricket bat. Altogether we took in over $2k for the night, which is a great effort. On the trail, things are getting close. Only 11 days to go. I walked 30ks in the dark over Friday night and reacquainted myself with how hard it is to see distance at night. And I have the scratches to prove it. We will run at night on the weekend. Hopefully that will set us up for the Friday following. the worst news is that moonlight will be nonexistant for the event and I'm expecting rain. July 28 - Well Vineta and I (Bob) took to the first 2 sections or 28Kms of the track on Saturday afternoon. Whilst we cruised through to first checkpoint in about 2 hours feeling in excellent health, the second was relentless ups and down and left us both, particularly me, low on fuel and somewhat exhausted. One more key learning is that we will need to stop during this period to refuel and take on liquid as you just cant get enough in when you are constantly moving. Sunday was a good recovery. Vineta and Mark ran the Sunderland fun run but for me it was an afternoon in bed watching the rain. July 24 - Well it is now only 36 days before the event. We are yet to do a night walk which is when it starts to get serious. Walking through the bush at night @ around 5 degrees, damp air and shadow terrors is not exactly my idea of fun but someones got to do it. Garth looks a treat in his footy shorts. We have now convinced him on the benefits of 'Skins'. During the week we had a 'teaser' breakfast for our major fundraiser.
