The Long Walk
On Saturday the 24th we set out with the full team to tackle sections 1,2 and,3 to complete our longest training walk yet. Kathy Russell also joined us for section 2 between Cowan and Berowra to enjoy the bush and act as team photographer. The mission was accomplished after dark having completed the 43 km in about 11hrs and in various degrees of fatigue and discomfort. ( only 57 km to go !).

Take 2
Friday 9th Dave and Keith set out to finish what we started on the last team walk. The plan was to walk sections 2 and 3 and the back to Berowra via Cowan creek , this time without the wet weather and creek crossings. The photo attached is shot at the same creek we "swam" on the 4th of June. It turned out to be a good day for walking and we just managed to finish before dark after 9 hrs . On Wednesday 14th , we followed up with a night walk between Berowra and Mt Kuring-gai to test out our lamps and gear.

Extreme Training 4th June
Last Friday we set out for our latest team training , minus Damien. All week the weather forecasts were not great but the phrase "rain, hail or shine" was used a lot !!. The plan was to walk sections 2 and 3 and the back to Berowra via Cowan creek which would have been a testing length. But after some heavy down pours over night and in the morning, the trails became waterfalls and the track dangerous in places. We managed to finish stage 2 and then decided to call it quits before we drowned or hypothermia set in. We will have to try this walk again in better weather. A BIG THANKYOU TO THOSE WHO HAVE ALREADY SPONSORED THE TEAM !!!

We are “On Track”
Living around the Brooklyn area, Kate observed this event over the years and her love of bushwalking and THE CHALLENGE led her to talk to Keith "our resident jogger/fitness fanatic". Upon discussion this led us to form a team and track down other enthusiastic and willing? participants. As Damien and Dave did not say no straight away they were soon part of “On track”. So on 27 August 2010, our team Kate Hendrikson, Keith Russell, David Harley and Damien Eve from the RAILCORP ,Infrastructure Maintenance Division, Hornsby North district office, will take part in the Oxfam TRAILWALKER Sydney 2010 event. Before we reach the start line we will be raising money for a worthy cause that helps millions of people around the world every year. Please help us achieve our goals 100 KM and $5000 !!!

Training Walk 1
Our first team training walk was held on the 12th of February on stage 1 of the course from Hawkesbury river to Cowan (approx 14k). The plan was for the four of us to walk, but a quick phone call to Kate at 9.30 revealed that she would rather take her son to hospital to have his broken arm operated on than walk with us?? Sorry Kate. So at 10 am we set off. A hot and humid day then took its toll with us finishing in about 2 pm in 36 degrees heat. More training required !!
