We finished!!!

...and we knocked 8 hours off last years time. It was not without major pain - one team member was taken to hospital, and another remains on crutches. Of course, we're still accepting donations.

The fundraising has begun

post image

Today we had our first fundraising event, courtesy of the very brave Chad Crittle who donated his long hair. Chad has been well known for his long Farah Fawcett like hair so taking this plunge was a huge effort and sacrifice. Cutting rights were sold, starting at $5 a snip. $290 dollars were raised from different people taking their turns to cut sections of Chad's hair. Pretty soon it became obvious that hair cutters were trying to give Chad a rather unpleasant mullet. If you are friends with me or Grey, check out our facebook pages for photos. Since we couldn't send Chad home looking like a complete bogan, the right to shave off Chad's hair was auctioned off to the highest bidder. It ended up being a split bid worth $86 which sent Chad home with a grade 4 all over. $376 was raised in total which is a fantastic boost to our fundraising. A big thank you to everyone who cut Chad's hair and an enormous thank you to Chad who donated himself. We'll be organising other fundraising events soon - so watch this space. Many thanks, The Zoo crew

The Training has begun!!

I thought we should start adding some notes on the pain and suffering that we are enduring for your generous donations. We just completed our first night training session from St. Ives to the Roseville bridge. It was a successful walk with heaps of wallabies and Flying Foxes crashing through the trees around us. It was an easy section of the track but still involved climbing over, around and through rocks and boulders. It was 17 kms long and took us 4 hours. But here is the real reason why you should be donating! On our taxi ride back to the car the taxi driver actually donated $5. We paid him the $30 for the fare and he handed back $5. I was just impressed that he came and picked up 4 people from under the Roseville bridge at 9pm. We will be updating this page regularly so feel free to drop in, catch up and donate (many times). Thanks The Zoo Crew (not the magazine)
