A Huge Thank You

post image

It is often said but it is most definitely the case that we could not have competed this year without the support of our fantastic crew. A massive THANK YOU to Brian & Keryn who headed up the show with Dimity, Dawn, Clare, Caz, Sue, Mimi & All the kids. It was such a treat to come to each check point and have everything laid out for us, to hear words of encouragement and have a laugh. A thank you also to all of our generous donors who have helped us reach a total of $5600 and helping make the lives of people around the globe better through the work of Oxfam. Cheers The Blistered Brothers, (Aka Josh, Andrew Blake & Pete.)

We Made It!

post image

We made it, completing the course in 22hrs 40mins, we were all thrilled with how we went. The boys all held up, though we all had our ups and down. With something sore, a bout of gastro and the heat on the hills on Friday! It was a great team effort, with each one playing their part in keeping the momentum going and making sure we made it to the end. We were thrilled to make it to Mosman before sun rise. The boys have already booked their appointments with the Physio, Chiro, Podatrist and Masseuse for Monday! The Blistered Brothers

The Last Team Run

post image

A glorious Sunday afternoon saw The BB have their final team training run before Friday weeks 100km walk. We trained on the last 26km of the circuits finishing at Balmoral with fish and chips with our families. We are all in good shape, and looking forward to the 100km, we will have clocked up about 350km on the track over the last 10 weeks and have hopefully ironed out all the equipment requirements for the day. We now all know the track pretty well. A big thank you to our families particular Caz, Clare, Dawn, Dimity and Brian for the help and allowing us to do the hours on the track that we have done. Brian will be the "man in the van" for the day, and we wouldn't be able to do it without him. Finally thank you to all our gererous supporters, we realise times are tuff, and really appreciate your support for The BB and our goal of raising $5000 for Oxfam and the work they do in Australia and around the globe.

SAT 18TH JULY 'PETE'S BDAY'

post image

An early start saw us waiding through the fog for a 3 stage hit out. Once the sun came up we were met by a beautiful sunny winters day. Our first stop to fill up with water gave us the opportunity to celebrate Pete's Birthday with a cupcake at about 8.30am. A great way to kickstart the day with some well deserved carbs. Today saw us ramp up our training program to the next level which has put us on track for the event. Hopefully we can leave behind any flu and injuries from this point. Pete isn't giving away too much but hopefully he can past his injured foot in the near future.

Oh I love a rainy night!

post image

Training last night was again a rainy and muddy affair. The team has been hit by injury and illness to Blake and Josh, but both are on the mend and focusing on Saturday weeks first longer walk. Andrew & I were lucky enough last night to be joined by the 2009 Australian Womans Ultramarathon champion, Meredith. Meredith came along for a training run and shared her knowledge of endurance events which was invaluable. We all had a lot of fun in testing conditions. Thanks again for everybodies support and donations, we have 7 weeks to the big event and plenty of training and fundraising to go.

Fun in the mud

Last night saw the Blistered brothers and 2 extra training buddies splash there way from Davidson to Seaforth Oval, a section of 20km. It was a good test of our wet weather gear or lack of it. The once little creeks were raging torrents and the paths resembled lakes in places. Vision at time was pretty poor with the heavy rain and mist in the valleys making walking a little tricky in places. The two recruits for the night Sam and Bailey lead the way for most of the night which was a little embarrassing, but we know who to call in if we are short on the day. The BB are warming to the task of Thursday night training, and we will start walking some longer sections in the near future. To date Andrews' back and Blakes' knees appear to be coping with the trail which is great news. Thanks to everybody support and interest. Cheers The BB!

Our First Training Run

Thursday night saw the first meeting of the Blistered Brothers at The Willoughby over a beer and burger. We put down our team training program and goal for the 2009 Oxfam. We start on the track in the next week which we are all busting to do. We will keep you informed of our coming training adventures. cheers The Blistered Brothers

Blistered brothers Ride Again

Yes we are back for 2009, with a slightly modified team. Andrew is giving it another crack after his awesome effort of 2007 of cracking 24hours. He did say he would never do it again. We are looking forward to setting some goals and having our first training over a quiet ale. Cheers The BB.
