But I would walk 31.1 miles!
Saturday was the day! The day we had avoided thinking about for the last 6 weeks & secretly hoped wouldn't come. The day we would walk 50km in training :)
A very early start to the day, we left home at 4:45am and met our fellow trailwalkers who despite the early hour, were in high spirits and ready to take on the 50km trek to Warburton.
Starting around 8am, a light rain began to fall and although it didn't get any heavier, it continued for the entire walk and was almost a welcome change to the hot conditions the past few weeks.
Tackling Melba's Track early, it's bark was definitely nowhere near as painful as it's bite last weekend, but then we did have fresh legs and hadn't just experienced the joy of Hackets. We breezed through the first 15km, and hit the start of Warburton Trail about 10am, which we follow for the next 35km.
And the rumours are true. The Warburton Trail is very long and flat, and there really isn't a lot of variation in the scenery. But like all good trailwalkers, we kept ourselves entertained with made up trivia games including questions like "What was the name of the cat from the smurfs".
I think the real pain started to set in with about 10kms to go. Stiff legs started to show, and feet began to feel very heavy. But we pushed on, counting down every kilometer with the markers on the trail, and some 8.5 hours later, made it to the end at Checkpoint no.7, an incredibly welcome sight.
Again, great walk everyone. We're getting good at this now! Special mention to Brion who did his first walk with the team and completed the whole 50km.
Tired, a little stiff and a few blisters later, I think we finished up feeling pretty good considering! Turns out these training walks are helping after all.

And then there were four!
BIG training walk this weekend! For the first time, we walked as a team of 4, and despite the early heat, walked really strong and gelled together perfect.
Awesome effort ladies! Without Ranger Rick up front, we still set a mean pace, covering almost 7km an hour for the majority of the day... that after a few wrong turns, took about 8 hours, and covered over 40kms.
Starting at Checkpoint 2, we set off from Listerfield as the sun rose, headed for Checkpoint 5 on the Warburton Trail - the dreaded thought of Hacketts track looming. But then no one had ever told us about Melba's Track. :)
Steep uphills, even steeper downhills, and lots of winding bush tracks later, we made it to Checkpoint 5 feeling good, but very ready for a sit down.
Thanks for all the generous online donations again this week! Please accept a thank you high 5 from all of us :) We're training hard for this event so it's great to feel the love.
Final details on our Oxfam Fundraising Lawn Bowls evening on March 13, coming (very) soon. Please stay tuned.

A Great Ocean walk it was!
First up, a big THANK YOU to everyone that donated to our team during the week! It's going to a great cause, and we really appreciate the support, so thank you :) As it turns out though, we're still $2855 short... so we're having a lawn bowls fundraising afternoon/evening on Saturday March 13. Come along if you can make it! Details TBA. But for now, back to business...
Saturday 13th Feb - we set off on our biggest mission yet - the Great Ocean Walk from Torquay to Moggs Creek that would push our longest walk to date past the 30km mark!
An early start from Jan Juc near Torquay, we set off along the Coastal Track for Anglesea, 16kms away and the half way point for today's walk. Great weather conditions and a track that weaved past Bells Beach, some stunning coastline, took us beachside for 1.5km of sand walking, and finished up on the lake at Anglesea... didnt 'quite feel like hard work!
After a quick stop for lunch, the honeymoon was over and the gravel hill walking had begun :) Heading inland along the river to Coogoorah Park, we went straight up Mt. Ingoldsby (made somewhat easier by the view of the Golf Course from the top), paused briefly so Matt could change his boots (that decided it was an appropriate time to break away from it's sole), then up, down, over and onward toward Aireys inlet and Distillery Creek, walking on every surface you can think of... sand, grass, dirt, gravel, pebbles and concrete! And...... we made it!
Feeling good at the 28km mark, we were keen to push on and break the invisible 30km barrier, so 7km and and 1.5 hours later, we arrived at Moggs Creek with tired feet and big smiles. A late afternoon beer in the sun was very much enjoyed, with Team mascot Henry in tow.

100km+ in training walks so far, go team!

Sunday Training Sesh... the Two Bays Track in Mornington!
This week's training session saw us take on the 26.5km Two Bays Track on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula.
An early start at Dromana on Port Phillip Bay took us from the sand, straight up to Arthurs Seat, down through Greens Bush, onto Bushrangers Bay, finishing up at Cape Schanck's lighthouse roughly 5 hours later at 3pm.
It was a huge day! Blue skies and warm temps (that eventually crept over 30 degrees!) made for a great but challenging walk! Everyone walked really well and maintained the mean pace being set up front, stopping only for a few short breaks to rehydrate, munch on some snacks, stretch it out and marvel a (very) big Grey Kanga!
Check out the map below highlighting the trail we took, plus a few happy snaps from along the way including the stunning sights of Port Phillip Bay & a real live Echidna.
Only down side? An almost 30km stretch of organised walking tracks and not a single place to refill your water bottle along the way.
Great job team.
I don't know about you, but I certainly slept well last night :)
