Countdown is on!

Only 3 more days until our team hits the Oxfam trail for the big 100km event! We want to thank you for your support and best wishes so far, it means a great deal to us. The team is very excited to be taking on this challenge, & thanks to our amazing list maker, Kate, we are ready to hit the start line all prepared. We aim to be dragging our weary feet and bodies over the line at approximately 7pm Saturday evening, which will be a massive 36 hours since the start! It's not too late to donate to our team as well! We have well and truly smashed our target of $2000, thanks to our sponsors and the amazing fundraising auction (in conjunction with team Backbenders) a couple of weeks ago. But we'd still love to keep going to support the amazing work of Oxfam Australia! Thanks again to all of our sponsors so far! And a huge thank you in advance to the Pitter Patter Support Crew (Brent, Helen, Graham & Vera) who will be tackling the event along with us; without you, our upcoming effort would not be possible! See you on the other side. Wish us luck!

Wilson's Prom Training Walk

post image

Team Pitter Patter joined forces with Pyroclastic Surge at Wilson's Prom last weekend to conquer the circuit of 42km! We set out early with our packs full of many delicious, energy filled treats! Throughout the day we walked along pristine beaches & encountered beautiful sights, like only the Prom can deliver. We played crazy alphabetic memory games of band names, 'name your top five ...(insert category here)', most disgusting word game, and even a couple of 'would you rather ...?' games, all in the name of entertainment/distraction/passing time. And it worked! Despite a couple of slight hiccups along the way (giant ant bite, slipping onto butt, dropping sock into water while crossing river, & sore hip/feet/toes), we remained in very high, and sometimes mildly euphoric spirits! We made it home to camp, but not before an awesome team swim in the surf to soothe our aching joints. Special mention to Bonnie for the awesomely delicious vegie slice we had for lunch, and to Kate, Ad, Bon & Bill for the yummy pasta that was whipped up at camp to fill our hungry bellies for dinner. To Kate for the flavour-filled red boiled lollies, and to Ad for his quote of the day... 'I could put shit in my mouth right now & it would taste good'. He was very hungry at the time! Our stiff & sorry bodies managed to walk 5km to Squeaky Beach on Sunday morning, as our recovery session. Now we know we can walk a really long way, go to bed, and then get up (albeit with difficulty) and walk the next day! Good work team! Now, to look forward to the next big walk in a few short weeks. Special thanks also to our favourite medical supplies, Voltaren and Mefix tape! Until next time, Rin.

Australia Day training walk

post image

It was our first time training together as a complete team today! Walking through the lush Sherbrooke Forest was a great way to spend the morning of Australia Day. We walked & navigated with team Back Benders. Onward and upward we went! The next section included the notorious Hackett's Rd Hill...! Thankfully we all made it up in one piece, although puffed! New team rule created- no talking allowed on steep hills, so as to conserve oxygen reserves... Thankfully, the hill is less than a km long- any further and it could be pushing it! Another little stroll up the road, and we made it back to the car. Australia Day training- complete! Belgrave to Olinda, about 13.5km. We thought it would be nice to get our first complete team photo!! Here is Team Pitter Patter! Bonnie, Ad, Kate, Maree & Rin.

Training on the trail

post image

We took to the trail last weekend minus one team member who had to work and couldn't join us...From the start to Belgrave station for Kate and just before that for Rin and Maree (about 32 km in all). Beautiful day and lovely company as we were joined by team members from Back Benders and Pyroclastic Surge. Notes to self - wrap feet BEFORE walking to prevent blisters from hell, sun screen must be applied evenly and best only to think about the next 10 km ahead bat any one time We are all looking forward to our first complete team training on the morning of Australia day - from Belgrave station and up...and up! Loving the challenge!

Welcome!

Welcome, & thank you for visiting the official page of Team Pitter Patter for the 2010 Oxfam Trailwalker! I have been nominated by my team members to be the leader of our team, so here I am... proudly presenting Pitter Patter! It is a very exciting and brand new experience for all of us to be taking part in the Oxfam Trailwalker. I think I can speak on behalf of the team when I say, that, although we are very excited to be faced with this challenge, there is also some anxiety, hesitation & thoughts of 'can we do it?'. And the answer is... there is only one way to find out! So we are tackling the task & the training head on! What better way can we possibly imagine? None. So- Let's do it!! Keep an eye out for our page updates, & to see how we are progressing with our training. Thank you for taking the time to support our team! Lorinda ;)
