WW Support Crew
It is time we introduced the most under-rated part of our team, the Walrus Warrior Support Crew. Every training session they continually provide us with endless supplies of food and water before rushing off to the next checkpoint. They have an amazing ability to locate coffee shops, even though the trek is through the Victorian bush!! They closely monitor our diets with wholegrain sandwiches, fruits, water, etc, provide first aid and massages where necessary. Several support crew members have been inspired by the Walrus Warriors to run the 14.5km run 4 kids this weekend. The support crew consists of Loz, Kara, Tahlia, Jacob (pictured) and Shelli & Benjamin. Thanks for your ongoing support guys!!

How nice is the weather?
Our weekly training session had the target of trailwalking for 12 hours. The ordinary forecast of isolated showers and a chance of thunderstorms was not enough to deter us. At 8.00am we set off from Jells park with our new Walrus Warrior team shirts. We decided that the weather forecast was a load of horse crap as the weather remained perfect ... until we got to Olinda at 3pm. Just before we were about to set off from the checkpoint, the clouds come rolling in, the sky become dark and the heavens opened. The Walrus Warriors were keen to continue but unfortunately they had a sensible team member who suggested that we call it a day and come back next week. Looking back, it was one of the smartest decisions we have ever made in a training session. 45km in 7 hours still aint a bad days work though...

Night Training Session
The Walrus Warrior's training took a new dimension this week, as we completed our first night training session! This was not just another crazy hair brained idea by Dan, but actual preparation for the real deal. On the actual day of the event we predict that we will have to do approximately 30kms in the dark, so we thought it best to try it out first. We kicked things off at 6pm on Friday afternoon at Mt Evelyn, and approximately 6.5 hours and 43kms later (22km in the dark), we made it to our destination (Wesburn Park). Of course, this gave us the opportunity to test out our new headlights to make sure they light up the track sufficiently. I am happy to report that all went really well, except for perhaps a few tense moments when Dan feared for his life. Poor Dan thought he was about to be beset upon by a pack of raging bulls as a loud rustling was heard from the nearby scrub. In the end it was nothing more than a few of the friendly wombats in the area as they bolted out from the bushes and across the path directly in front of us. Needless to say that after finishing in the wee hours of Saturday morning a good nights sleep was had by all.

Trivia Night update
With only just over one week to go to the WW Trivia Night, the night is gearing up to be loads of fun and a great success. So far we have approximately 120 people booked and have received some great prizes from companies such as Yering Station, Woolworths, Balloon Decor, Comics lounge and Bellbird timber. Thanks also to all the individuals that have donated online (which can be viewed on the right of this webpage) and our corporate donors, Navy Health and Savage Homes. Welcome to the Walrus Warriors Webpage
Yes, it was my crazy idea to get four individuals together to complete the 100km Oxfam trail through the Victorian bush, all who have no experience in this event whatsoever. Just in case that wasn’t a big enough challenge, I then added the target of finishing within 17 hours! There is no doubt that this will be the toughest combined mental and physical thing that any of us have done in our lives, however still doesn’t compare to the pain and suffering that the people that Oxfam funds support. Please give generously to meet our target fund raising and we will do what it takes to finish the Oxfam trail within the 17 hours. You can use this website to see blogs on how we are progressing through our training and for live tracking on the day to see whether we are on target. To find out more about the team, scroll down the page. Thankyou to all the team who have committed to put their bodies through this and the support crew who will be providing us with the drinks, energy, and support that we will be in desperate need of on the day. Thanks also to everyone that has donated and supported us along the way. Dan

Richard Davis
I seem to enjoy entering events that I dont think I can finish, so it didnt take much arm twisting by Dan to get me involved. Do some running, cycling and the occasional swim to keep fit. Counteracts the IT sitting on your butt lifestyle. Looking forward to the challenge and seeing Melbourne.

Seb Dworkin
30 years old. Having only recently discovered fitness, I thought what better way to embrace it than by joining Dan, Richard and Hayden on a 100km trek through the wilderness. Oh yes, wait, there IS a better way, apparently - do the whole thing in 17 hours! Crazy. But, if there's two things I love, it's a goal and a challenge, and while this is bigger than most goals and challenges I have set for myself in the past, I feel there is nothing that can't be achieved through putting in some effort. The fact that it raises money for a worthwhile worldwide cause is an additional bonus, and helps with motivation when things get tough on the course. Off the track I spend my days in biological research, and my interests include trivia, collecting footy cards, collecting walruses (hence the team name!), the occasional glass of wine and indoor cricket. So everyone, get behind the mighty Walrus Warriors as we take on the Trailwalker challenge!

Daniel Langelaan
31 years old. I live in Endeavour Hills with my wife and two beautiful children. I like to keep as active as possible, either taking the kids to the park, playing basketball on weeknights, golf on the weekends or running in my spare time. I am really looking forward to this challenge. It would be an awesome achievement if the four of us can complete this trail within 17 hours!! We have nothing to lose (except for the use of our legs for a couple of days afterwards) and we are able to gain fitness and raise money for Oxfam along the way.

Hayden Oliver
29 years old. I spend my week days held up in an office, so during my free time I like to get out and enjoy the fresh air. I love keeping active thru walking, running, swimming, social basketball and whatever else goes as long as it's fun. I see the 100km as a massive personal challenge to see how far I can push myself, but most importantly I hope that I will be able to make a difference to Oxfam and those people unfortunate enough to have to rely on Oxfam for assistance.
