We did it!

post image

Well what an achievement! Despite shocking blisters, crippling groin, hamstring & knee pain, all four girls crossed the finish line to complete the event in 30 hrs 17 mins. Privately we wondered if we'd get there when at the rest stop between checkpoint 6&7 Prue discovered she was about to lose a toenail to a very nasty blister. But what an enterprising woman she is. She took to her runners & socks with some scissors and cut out the toes, and pushed on. Stellar effort. Thanks goes out to our amazing support crew Jo, Liz & Mike, Marcus and Aiden who kept us going, we couldn't have done it without you. Special mention to Marcus & Aiden for the 2am & 6am shifts, you put up with our delirious ramblings and didn't say a word! Thanks again to all who sponsored us, your generosity far exceeded our expectations and we are very grateful.

4 weeks to go!!!

A very big THANKYOU to all those who have donated to the girls so far! For those of you who are yet to put your plastic to a good cause, there is still plenty of time, and the team would appreciate your ongoing support. The girls are also seeking anyone who may be able to donate any items for our Bunnings BBQ With four weeks to go a number of items have been playing on the team's mind! 1: Are we going to make 100kms? 2: Are we going to have enough money raised? 3: Why are we walking 100kms??? 4: Are our blisters going to keep on keeping on? 5: Seriously, are we REALLY walking 100kms? An obvious trend of thought, the girls have decided to pound out half of the distance this Saturday to put themselves to the test! An early start of 6.30am will see the girls spend their day, side by side for 50kms along a popular Mornington Peninsula trail walk. Wish them luck! What have the girls been up to? Last weekend Bridge completed the Run for the Kids and in an outstanding effort ran a majority of the 14kms! Well done Bridgy! Kelscha has been busy on school camp, swimming and getting a few decent walks in when she can, however the boot camp has slowed down... Prue has been super busy, but is keen for this weekend to get in some good distance. Kate is enjoying fresh powder slopes in Colorado, which is no doubt keeping her fit (watch out for snow injuries Kate, remember, 4 weeks to go!!!) Keep your donations coming and check in with the girls and wish them luck!

27kms and feeling good

post image

On Saturday 13 Feb the team tackled CP3 to CP5, through Olinda to the start of the Warburton trail in Mt Evelyn. Despite three wrong turns adding a extra 2kms to the journey, we surprised ourselves by how good we were feeling afterward. A couple more long sessions before tapering down and we'll be ready for the main event - six weeks to go!

It's time to sweat, people!

post image

After attending the info night back in November we were pumped to get out on the trail so we hit CP2 to CP3 as a warmup to Hacketts Rd (a nearly vertical incline that seems to go on forever). Despite having walked the section several times during training and last year's event, Bridge invariably allowed the team to get lost, tacking on an extra 3kms to the 13km stage. Suffice it to say we were a little tender in the days following that first walk! Lesson one: don't follow other walkers assuming they knew where they were going - they were thinking the same thing about you! Fast forward to February and the pressure is on to get our Trailwalker legs. With the silly season well and truly over and Prue wedded and honeymoon-ed, there are no more excuses! The occasional two-hour walk here and there ain't going to cut it anymore. Now We Mean Business. Kelsch is bootcamping three times a week, Prue is getting up at the ungodly hour of 5.30 every morning to walk for an hour, Kate is pounding the pavement like a demon, and in a moment of weakness Bridge signed up to do the 14.8km Run for the Kids (and she can't even run 1km so 14 should be interesting). We've got to build up to the big walks fast, so on Saturday we're tackling CP3 to CP5; 25kms of arguably the most challenging terrain of the whole trail (One word: Hacketts). Now you may have noticed that something else we're a little behind on is the fundraising - show your support for our Newfound Enthusiasm (and help take the pain away from the blisters you know we'll have come Saturday afternoon) by being the first to donate!
