Bring it On
The last few weeks we have been training on own - fine-tuning and tapering (apparently). At least we might have something to talk about during the event. We rolled out a lazy 14km on Saturday morning as our final walk in preparation for Friday and then had a strategy/planning/bbq/drinking session on Sat night as part of the mental preparation. Support crew plan now all sorted, we look forward to the big day. Thank you to all of our sponsors and supporters.

Kallista to Mt Evelyn (Sun 15th Feb)
Started from Checkpoint #3 (Grants Picnic Reserve) in Kallista on Sunday morning. Relived the nightmare of Hackett's Road on way up to Olinda. Then descended to Silvan and eventually back to base at Mt Evelyn. Approx 30 km in 4 hours with a bit of a trot every now and then. Decided that even if "maps are overated" (Coppo) they still come in handy - lucky the missed turnoff was a shortcut.

Training Walk Sunday 8th Feb
We set off on the Mullum Mullum Creek track in Ringwood and followed the Eastlink path to Blackburn Road and then returned. Time of 3 hours, est 20 km. Nice to get some relief after yesterday's 46 degrees.

Wilsons Promontory Training Walk
What a great walk! We (Paul, Andy, John and Alec) zipped our packs at the Mt Oberon Carpark and hit the track at about 7.30pm on Fri 30th Jan and headed south towards the lighthouse. After 3 days with temp over 43 degrees, it was great to feel the more moderate Prom temperatures. At about 10.00 we reached our first camp at Roaring Meg. With the ground as hard as concrete, we all had rough sleeps...oh, except for Alec. We had to wake him up in the morning. No cooked breakfasts or cuppas - total fire ban. We then loaded up and started walking towards the lighthouse. Bass Strait was as flat as a pancake and we then headed along the East coast track towards Waterloo Bay. Arrived at Lt Waterloo Bay at lunch time, but first had to take a dip. After walking and sweating all morning, the water was sensational. Shared lunch with the black crows before hitting the track over Kersops Peak and arrived at the magnificent Refuge Cove at about 4pm. Spent the afternoon swimming, playing cards and looking for the comfy chair. Woke up on Sunday with rain and cold wind. Packed up and Alec led the way home via Sealers Cove, setting a frantic pace compared with the previous day. Arrived back at car at about 1.30pm. Car temp read 18 degrees as we left and 33 when we arrived back home.
