Training starts 10 December

Em & I thought we would do some training and check out the track. On Sunday 30 November we set off bright and early from the start at Jells Park, with the aim of completing the whole track in the coming weeks. After a few wrong turns, we made our way through the first and second checkpoints at Churchill Park and Lysterfield Lake, finishing up about 5kms past Lysterfield. We did 30kms (including the wrong turns) in 5 1/2 hours. Few brushes with nature along the way - 4 echidnas, kangaroo, rabbits, and 2 possible snake sightings (well, we really just heard rustling in the bushes and screamed and ran, such girls!). Pretty flat walk, hitting the hills next week!

This only after 50km! 19 November

On Saturday 15th November Leisa and I (Emily) took part in the 50km Upstream challenge (Docklands to Donvale). We thought this would be a great opportunity to get an idea of we might be in for trying to walk the 100kms. The walk went well and we managed to complete the 50km in 9 hours. It was a great feeling crossing the finish line and an even better feeling to celebrate with a cold beer! The last 7kms were a struggle with the muscles ceasing and the blisters growing into the size of small planet. We were lucky to have a great support crew, who will (hopefully) be with us for Oxfam as well. It does make me think though…if we just managed to complete the 50km walk (most of it being flat and on a path) and Oxfam is twice the distance, hilly and off road…..I better stop writing this and get to gym!

Now the fun starts!! 06 November

Over a few beers this seemed like a good idea!! Sitting in a bar in Christchurch Steve suggested to work colleagues Leisa and Emily that he would like to complete the Trailwalker in 2009 after participating in 2008, but he didn't have a team. The girls were very eager to jump on board. How hard can 100 kilometres be?? So on returning to Melbourne and recruiting Steve's wife Cheryl, the team was born and primed and ready for action. With the support of the Faculty of Information Technology (FIT) at Monash University and it's Dean, Professor Ron Weber we were registered and off! Here's an action shot of Steve and Em sealing the deal in New Zealand that night. Stay tuned for more training updates. Leisa and Emily are heading off on a 50 km walk on Saturday 15th November. We'll start FIT as....but finish sore as.
