Our new walking strategy

It never rains but it pours. Jojo's brother rang last week and let us know he is getting married in Sydney on April 17th at lunchtime and we realised we couldn’t do it all. So Team 616 is doing their own version of Trailwalker and we are aiming to cover 60km in 12 hours. It’s still an endurance event and we’re still raising money for Oxfam. And we figure it’s super-endurance because we’re flying to Sydney very very early Saturday morning, and flying back home to Melbourne very very early Sunday morning. As a team, we will withdraw at Checkpoint 5. We will then do the walk together as a team next year!

Last big training walk done

We're back to being the Power Talkers - the original team 616, with 3 of our 4 original team members! We covered about 37km on Good Friday up and down steep hills from Dromana almost to Cape Schank and back. We highly recommend the Two Bays Trail to anyone who wants to try out some bushwalking! Anyway our new team members went just fine and are doing an amazing job considering they joined us just 4 weeks before the event. Can't wait for the event itself. We're going low-tech and low-support, just walking and taking as few breaks as possible. Wish us luck getting in under 24 hours.

FOUND - 2 team members

Well we had quite a bit of interest in people joining which is promising, but we have secured Lisa and Sharon to walk with us. Lisa was the blister queen from last year but she's buying the Thorlos and she's got 2 new pairs of runners and so far so good. She just walked 11km in 1 hour 40 minutes which means I will have to run to keep up with her! all the very best Jojo xx

2 new team members wanted

OK so at team dinner last night and then follow up this morning we established that Big Jo and Di are not going to do the walk. We are all completely fine with this except that now we need 2 new team members! We're looking for any age / gender who are wanting to walk through the night (no sleeping) and keep rest breaks to a minimum. This is because last year we fluffed around at all our rest stops cutting out tape to treat blisters - necessary but very inefficient. Last year we ended up on our feet for 6 hours longer than expected and we don't want that experience again. Niki and Jojo can walk 5.5 - 6.0 km / hour and have a reasonable level of endurance. It's worth noting that we're a couple. It'd be great if anyone would like to join us aiming for a finish time of 24 hours or less. xxx

Team 616 is getting ready to go

post image

Team 616 the Dirty Dogs are finally getting into getting ready for this walk! Big team meeting tonight to decide our strategy. We are: Jojo - team leader also known as Middle Jo but better known as Miss Jojo the glittery tap dance Niki - the enthusiastic one who finished last year and said "Let's do it again!!" Winner of entering the most charity events in a year. Jo - aka Big Jo - owner of Dirty Dogs Pet Supplies and cyclist extraordinaire. Di - superfit, marathon runner, cyclist and general high achiever with a tendency to bump into things occasionally. And our fabulous support crew are: Little Jo, Steve and Lisa & Pete. We're 4 weeks away from the walk and we're a little nervous because our training hasn't been as good as it could be! We've been selling chocolates for the last year and our fundraising is slow but steady. We'd appreciate any donations to our team and we're very privileged to be doing this walk for Oxfam. xxx
