Naked Ladies, Vanilla Slices & Skins.....
Apologies for leaving it so long between blogs - well we have made it to the big 6 mark!! Before you think to yourselves so look at the Leaderboard now! We are well aware of where we are sitting but are still very happy we were on top of the WHOLE leaderboard for that week in February!!! To be perfectly honest we are happy to have reached $6000 - which we have to thank Rachel who hosted a "Naked Ladies" party, before you do a double take it is actually a clothes swapping party which Rachel & friends usually do for no charge but decided to do charge & raise a bit more for us, many thanks ladiesxxxx. Our wonderful friends at Vanilla House Patiserrie in Norman Avenue, Frankston South, did you get that? No? Vanilla House Patesserie at Norman Avenue Frankston South donated the remainder to make up to $6000. Last week we received the Skins we won in January's fundraising competition. Very scared to put something so tight on something that really has no business wearing anything tight, but was amazed at how they seem to suck everything in - a bit like a fitness girdle - gotta love that, lol!!! We are still training on a Monday night & hope to do a last big walk this Saturday nite before the really really big walk!! We cannot believe it is only 4 weeks away now....

The final countdown...or so we thought!!
Thank you so much to Sarah who donated just after the trivia night - what a lovely surprise to receive another donation so close to this, thank you so much. Walked from Checkpoint 5 on Sunday - was sensible this time & took 2 cars, dropped one off at Woori Yallock Primary school then parked at Graham Colling reserve & began at 6.15 a.m. A great walk (also very flat walk which added to greatness!!) Arrived with minimal fuss at car in 2 1/2 hours - met lovely team representing Frances Perry (changing name to "Not to posh to push", very clever) had a chat then swapped cars to checkpoint 7 at Warburton Golf club. Began walking again at 10.15 a.m. About 5 km in began to feel a bit peculiar (not usual feeling of dragging sorry ass to finish) but more nauseated. Stopped for rest - decided maybe wouldnt finish superleg but would try. Fed ginger biscuits by Sue (help with nausea) fed vitamin water by Sue. Sue was more like a magician pulling all sorts of things out of her backpack. Reached Ferngully road & really couldnt go on. Luckily cousin Ned & Mairead were in the area & were able to pick us up. Erin & Kylie walked on & made it which was great - well done girls & sorry for dropping the ball this time. Was taken back to the car at checkpoint 6 & went home. Still didnt feel the best that night & more than a little disappointed that didnt finish. However when checking with safety book sent from Oxfam decided maybe a little dehydrated which stopping was obviously the right thing to do. Even though was positive I had drank enough, sunscreened & hatted up there wasnt a lot of shade where we had walked & heat is not a walkers friend at the best of times. Still will try & finish the last 10 km between now & the walk so we can truly say we have walked the trail (before April) Take care & stay hydrated....

Trivia Night
Well, we made it - what a great week the Twisted Sisters have had. We received an email from Simon on Wednesday nite saying that we had won the "Skins" in the January Fundraising competition. We were thrilled to say the least - however not so thrilled when it came to sizing but that is our issue!!! Then last nite we held the Trivia nite at Mornington Primary School. We said at the beginning of the nite we would like to reach $1350 as thanks to Nigel & Karen who donated on Saturday afternoon this was the remaining money left before we hit our pledge total. In the first hour we had reached $1000. We had 12 tables of family & friends - numerous raffles ( 22 in total on the night) & 4 auction items that went for fantastic prices. People were so generous on the nite and it was also a great opportunity to raise awareness for Oxfam. We also received donations on the nite too, which made great prizes for "random" questions that were thrown out there! It was close throughout the nite but the winners at the end of the six rounds including table games were - "The Outsiders". Congrats to John, Nola, Rachel, Tim, Simon, Amanda, Ned, Mairead, Michael & Renee!!! The only downer on the nite that was poor Michelle (support crew) who was going to be our emcee for the nite was so ill, that she had to go home. The feedback about the questions was positive with everyone seeming to agree that although a challenge they were questions we should know! Thanks to our wonderful support crew of Michaeli & Sal & to Chris who were busy selling raffle tickets & counting the money through the night so we could let everyone know before they left. The trivia night raised a total of $2131 - a lot of hard work but definately worth it.

Trivia Night
We don't normally write this close with our blogs, however after last night's meeting we just couldnt help ourselves!! We met to catch up & sort thru the donations to the trivia night. Wow!!! We will be able to auction the following 4 major items 1. The Very Hungry Caterpillar plush tou (only available thru Publisher) and book. 2. 2 foot Fish Tank and pine stand 3. Basket of Linen including sheets, doona cover etc. 4. Men's Oakley sunglasses with 2 stands to keep them on! We have enough donations to run 17 raffles and prizes to give away throughout the night. What has been extra special is that so many of the businesses have been very quiet themselves however were still able to give to this great cause, very humbling and we couldnt thank them enough if we tried. Our support team have been out in force & will be there on the night to collect money ( we will be counting a running total thru the night to see if we can reach our pledge amount - a bit like a telethon without celebrities on the phone!!) thank you one and all - we hope everybody who has bought tickets (sold out event too) really gets into the spririt of the event and above all has a great time..... thank you one and all xoxox

Check - another checkpoint down......
Well, as it was going to be hot, we decided to start early (as usual) & went to Lysterfield Lake & worked our way back!! We walked to checkpoint 2 then back again, meeting the Footsloggers on the way. It was nice to meet other teams (especially ones not jogging past us!!!) & to congratulate them on winning the skins & having a chat. 2 more checkpoints to go then we have completed them all - then to complete them at once in April, hmm!!! A big thank you to everbody who has purchased tickets to the upcoming trivia night on Feb 13th and especially to all the businesses who have donated - we are very lucky sisters!!! A big thank you to Lift Truck Brokers for their donation too. Til next time xxx

Garage Sale No 2!!
We held our last Garage Sale on Saturday which although didnt raise as much as last time, we were still thrilled with the fact that it put us in the running to win "skins". Fingers crossed!!! We didnt have as much to sell as we did last time (not as much to get rid of at the end either, lol!!) and people were still very interested in the books however the clothes didnt move as well as they did last time. Still it gave us a chance to spend some time together and raise that donation again. We are happy to be half way through our pledge now as time is ticking away!!!

Could we "hackett"? - barely....
Wow, in our infinite widsom, which seemed like a good idea before Xmas. We decided we would walk 3 checkpoints. The previous evening we even decided we would leave at 4a.m. so we could start walking at 5.30 a.m. Erin had teed up her brother & sister-in-law Brett & Carly to pick up the car from Kallista & bring it to Woori Yallock. Sounds like a plan? It does in the cold light of day when it wasnt going to be hot until much later (& we thought we would be pretty much finished!) The reality was, Erin thankfully suggested we do 2 checkpoints & we could pick up the car at Mt Evelyn. We started walking at 5.30 a.m. Sue was the only one that thought to bring her head lamp (we were so sure it would be light by then!) Started trekking & walked into Checkpoint 4 at 8.30 a.m. Although the track was only 10 km, we were slowed down by the usual, not familiar with the area, stopping to make sure we were on the right track & THE Hacketts Rd. Another WOW here, anyway we made it & stopped at Olinda for a break. Then off again - we stopped for a photo at the "halfway point" of the whole trail. Completed the Melba track & it is exactly as described in the official directions "steep and slippery" Stumbled to the Graham Collings Reserve & have never been happier to see the car- thank you so much Brett & Carly! Due to walking these checkpoints we have decided to try to complete them before we stop for a longer break during the actual walk. Would prefer to do them as close to daylight as possible or at least finish them even if it is still dark. Next walk will be with the volunteers the longest stretch between checkpoint 6 & 7 on the 31st - however until then we have a garage sale to have & a trivia nite to finish organising!!

A New Year begins...
Happy New Year to you all!! A bit remiss of us to go this long without writing something, however we have still been training (although we did have a 2 week break over Xmas to catch our breath a bit) Before we bring you up to date - a HUGE thank you to the following people -Emily, Victor & Maureen, Leanne, Chris, Belinda & Rachel for their donations for the latter half of November & December. We are so lucky to have so much support. The Sunday before Christmas we ventured up to Warburton & completed the last 7 km of the trail. It was a great feeling to see what will await us at the end & we have to admit to being a little more than intrigued about the "final 7". Having said that we are hitting the trail this Sunday to complete the checkpoints between 3 and 6 - a grand total of 37.8 km. We will only have 2 more checkpoints to complete so we will have completed the whole trail. We are having another Garage Sale on Jan 23rd & have started selling tickets to the Trivia night to be held on the 13th February. Thank you again to all you wonderful people who have donated & who have been supporting us through this including our families who are quite resigned to the fact of us disappearing each Monday night & once a month for most of a Sunday.

Trails can be deceiving.....
A big thank you to Phil, Craig, Kirsten & Joanne for their donations which has helped push up a total, it is very much appreciated!!! Out the door at 5 a.m. missed turn off to Lysterfield Lake, got back to Lysterfield Lake a.k.a checkpoint 2 & left at 6.35 a.m. It had stopped raining & we went on our merry way enjoying the scenery which included kangaroos & ducks. Arrived at Birdsland Reserve bbq area & toilet stop where Sue happened to remark that we were travelling well considering the trail was marked difficulty rating 3 (goes to 5) Famous last words!!! As we entered a more residential setting, Erin suddenly said "Don't look up!" Naturally 3 heads looked up & saw a steep road ahead. Got up that in between counting steps & rewarding ourselves with a stop before pushing on. Had to go up steps Kylie was ahead and turned around & uttered an expletive that cannot be repeated on this blog but you get the drift!! Pushed on towards checkpoint 3 (Grants Picnic ground) & arrived at 9.35 a.m. Thank you Erin for great navigating! The job is yours!!! Had lunch (seemed like lunch as we were up in the middle of the night or so it seems!) Headed back through torrential rain, being careful not to slip down on the way back. Arrived back at the car at 12.45 having made the decision on the way to change our usual walking route to include more steep hills to try & combat the dead legs!! That way we can also tackle the last 7 kms to Warburton hopefully in December (weather permitting) Bring it on!!! (PS - great photo of the girls BEFORE we set off, looked like something the cat had dragged in & back out again AFTER this!!)

Thankyou for this weekend...
I would just like to add my bit by thanking the following people... Dave, for being supportive of this cause, and keeping our girls happy and occupied all weekend. Erin, for your negotiation and bullish sales skills. The Lyons, including Nicholas and Harry, for being on the road at 6am and helping me with the Sunday Market. This time, we managed to all leave with less than what we took! Ian & Meredith (and Kate, Nicki, and Matthew) for all your fabulous donations, which helped get us to our grand total. And finally The Solis family, for giving up their house over the last few weeks to house all of the donations, for feeding us Friday and Saturday, and for managing to sneak a fresh/hot dinner onto our kitchen bench tonight, without being seen!! It was perfect! XXX Sue

Exhausted & Delirious............
Came home today to find 2 women babbling to the other half. Other half was looking quite disturbed & then relieved as I came in the door. The Director of Finance & Creative Director (aka Michaali & Sue) were perched on kitchen stools looking exhausted & delirious. As stated in last blog, they had volunteered to take left over items from garage sale & try to sell the rest at Dromana Drive in Market. However, they had a late night the night before, a very, very early start Saturday morning and another early start Sunday morning before heading back to work the next day. Along with Michaeli's family they managed to sell some more which has been fantastic!! It has pushed us along further than we thought we would be at this early stage. So from the other "sisters" to our dedicated & hopefully feeling a little less delirious after a much earned rest "sisters", we thank you xoxoxoxo

Bargains Galore!!!
Wow - our heads are still spinning. So many family & friends were so so generous with items that they donated willingly for our Garage Sale. We were still picking items up the night before. A few of us were able to meet the night before & start setting up the carport. Originally the idea was to set up trestle tables ready to put the items out. However we wouldnt have been ready by 8 a.m. We were able to put most of the items out, cover the bikes etc with a tarp. Up at 5 a.m. shower, breakfast etc we even beat the birds!!! People started pulling up just after 7 a.m. & it was all systems go. We had reached our target of $500 by 10 a.m. The families were involved as well and some of our children thought they may earn the cause a little extra by performing on the back of the ute! As is the norm with Garage Sales - items were left over, so Sue & Michaeli have bravely volunteered to head to Dromana Drive in Market in the morning to sell the rest of the goodies. More tomorrow & again thank you to the lovely people who helped us reach this amazing amount of money in one day.

Up the hills and down the hills....
Sue suggested that we include more terrain (seemed like a good idea at the time!!) However including more terrain also meant including ks! So off we trotted on Monday, this also included a much needed "stop" at Kylie's sister & brother in laws place, somehow I think they will be turning off the lights around 9 pm next week!!! Have been collecting for the Garage Sale recently. So many fantastic donations which will really help towards our pledge, we are very lucky. I was silently thinking only a few weeks ago that I hope we receive enough to sell!!! The spare room is chockers & Pete is keeping a suspicious eye on the shed as that fills up - can't seem to convince him that it will revert back to "his shed" by Saturday arvo! Thank you so much to all our family & friends who have been turning their own homes inside out in the quest to look for unwanted items for us. Stay tuned & we will let u know how it goesxxx
12 October
Phew- finished for now........
Made it back to where we started at 9 a.m. that morning - we were pleased with the time we made, considering we were not familiar with Jells Park & the Sat Nav failed!!!! Back to the weekly walks where we will be cranking up the km's and to organise our next "big" training walk. We will head up to Warbuton in November in the on going quest to check out as much of the trail as possible before next April and now onto organising the Garage Sale!!!
12 October
Erin, Kylie & Jennie
Fabulous Idea Number 2: Sue downloaded & laminated the maps & directions & puncholed them so we could attach them to a backpack. The maps & directions were big enough to be able to walk & look at the same time. A wonderful idea until.......... Not so Fabulous Idea Number 3: I (Jennie) was made the human Sat Nav. Despite my weak protests of not being great with directions, I was assured I would be fine. How lovely my fellow sisters had such great faith until we completely missed the Brady road turn. I am still unsure how this happened as the directions stated "follow the paved path" and we did..... until we realised we had walked to Heatherton road. After backtracking & Sue & Erin consulting said map & directions & Kylie stating she was sure we should have turned right at the last road - we were back on track so to speak. We did not pick up where we should have as we had definately covered distance we needed to. At said Brady road we realised our error & made back for the start of where it will begin.
12 October
First long, long training walk - Erin, Kylie, Sue
Fabulous idea 1: Decided to complete a part of the actual trail (note: very small - see thumb & finger almost touching as I write this!!) each month in the lead up to the actual trailwalk as well as our team weekly walk. From Jells Park (where we will actually begin the "real" walk) the idea was to walk to the first "checkpoint" and back (total of 25 km) so we can familiarise ourselves a bit with the trail.
12 October
Support Crew & Team
Serious discussions - is there any other?!!!! Fundraising - how, when & where? Garage Sale with proceeds going to Oxfam - Asking people for goods to donate to help us kickstart our pledge!
05 October
And the fun begins.........
Welcome to the Twisted sisters site!! We will endeabour to keep you updated with where we are etc.The four of us actually participating in the trailwalk are actually from a larger group of us that walk on a regular basis. The rest of the "usual" walking sisters will be part of our support crew between now & April. We are looking forward to this & will be updating this site on a weekly basis including photos.
