Training session 2 - A session of "firsts" 08 December

Our second training session was full of many “firsts” – First time for Rick our team member to join us on a session (so far Rick has donated $200 to our fund due to missing out on training sessions!) First time for Stuart (one of our support crew) to join us on a session. And first time for Sarah to realise that the GPS on our mobile phone does NOT affect the outcome of where we are headed when you turn the phone upside down. The biggest laugh I have had in a long time so thanks Sarah. So on Sunday the 7th of December four of us (Sarah, Rick, Dana and Stuart) set off on the next part of the track – Checkpoint 2 (Lysterfield lake) to Checkpoint 3 (Grants camping ground). We had perfect conditions (except for a few flies) and it took us about 2 hours and 45 min to do 13.5 km (we had a short break for a banana and stretch). Overall the track was quite nice except for a steep climb nearing the end of the walk. What a killer – we were all quite puffed. We think it would be a good idea to do the 1000 steps in Ferntree Gully a few times as part of our training in the next coming months. After the walk the next hour was spent in the lovely café in the picnic ground enjoying a breakfast and (a few) coffees (Rick we will make sure we get you coffee on the walk – I promise!) Our next training session is on Sunday the 14th from Checkpoint 3 (Grants picnic ground) to checkpoint 4 (Olinda) and then finish at 5 (Silvan reserve) – total of 19.7km. Let us know if you want to come along – all welcome. Thanks to everyone who has donated so far! Your efforts are much appreciated. We will keep filling you in on the joys with our training session so watch this space!

Training session #1 - and we thought this would be easy! 22 November

Our first training session and you'd think we'd done 100km! Well it felt like it anyway. Our first walk was a half marathon - only it felt harder than the real half marathon that the DOC team ran in at the start of the year! Last weekend we walked from Jells park to Lysterfield Park (21.5km). All went well except for a certain missing team member. So we have decided whoever misses a training session must donate to the team (that includes support crew too!). If anyone would like to join us on our walks we have one scheduled for Sunday 7th December (Lysterfield to Kallista 13.8km) and Sunday 14th December (Kallista to Olinda 11.7km). Check out some of Oxfams work and help out with some worthwhile projects by making a tax deductable donation on our teamspace page.
