Pushing Up Hacketts Rd..... 01 December

Feel the burn ladies.....cos you're not even half way up yet!

And then....there was Hacketts Rd....... 01 December

Before we'd even arrived at Hacketts Rd, we figured we were in for a little bit of trouble....as we've previously discovered, when the directions in the map book use the words "ascend" or "head up", it is never a promising sign. We found ourselves at the foot of a monster and it had to be beaten. Once we found our footing at the muddy, slippery base of the killer hill that is Hacketts Rd, we began to push on up.... Our breathing was deep, the sweat was pouring, our sunglasses were fogging up and this time, there was no laughter. Pure grit and determination was required as each individual pushed themself to the maximum both physically and mentally...... And then......We made it, and it's always funny when you get to the top of a rude hill like Hacketts Rd....Once you've conquered it and you can reflect on it, there is always that thought in the back of your mind "Maybe it wasn't that bad".....ha ha ha!

Ahhh.......a sight for sore eyes......Not only did the gardens have beautiful scenery.....they had a very cruisey descent....a descent that actually inspired some young ladies to jog for a little while! Our enthusiastic jog seemed to get the blood pumping, saw the sweat start to build and rapidly evaporate in the crisp air and turn us all a little loopy....we jogged and laughed.......our laughter was loud and infectious, hopefully we didn't disrupt anyones time in this tranquil environment!

C3 to C4 - Grants Picnic Ground to Olinda Reserve! 01 December

Well....we knew it was going to be a tough section and we were right. There were logs to climb over and weave around, many narrow tracks requiring single file, slippery bark covering sections of the track that was accompanied by plenty of mud and then, there was what seemed to be the never ending ascend that was Hacketts Rd. Quite the challenge! Never the less, puffy hands and all, we conquered this section in 2hours and 5minutes keeping our steady pace, even up those lingering hills.

........it looks like we knew where we were headed, but unfortunately this photo was taken before an error in orientation....followed by an unnecessary climb up one of the steepest hills we've come across so far. Let it never happen again!! This photo was taken on our 13.3km walk from Lysterfield Lake Picnic Area to Grants Picnic Ground.
