Christmas Raffle Fundraiser 24 December

Thank you to everyone who bought raffle tickets in support of our Christmas Hamper raffle. We raised a total of $180 which goes directly towards our fundraising total for Oxfam. A special thank you to the Hollis family for generously donating the huge hamper which included lots of yummy goodies. I'm sure our winner, Bryan Cranston, from Swinburne University is thoroughly enjoying them now.

Bootie Camp conquer the wettest day of the year 14 December

Grants Picnic Ground, Kallista to Olinda Reserve to Silvan Reservoir to Graham Coiling Reserve, Mount Evelyn. Our most recent training took place on Saturday 13th December, which coincidentally was LITERALLY the wettest day of 2008. All involved considered doing the big pike but pride prevented anyone from being 'the weakest link' and everyone showed up (although Yonna was 12.5 kms late having consumed too much red wine at her xmas party the night prior, but kudos for showing up!) Kirsty left 8 kms earlier than the rest to prepare for her xmas party also. So that left Aimii and Erin to conquer the whole 28kms! Spirits were anxious at the beginning as we set off from Kallista with a lot of nervous laughs (or maybe just laughing at the stupidity of it all). Parts of the track were converted to streams of water, and others big, mudpits. But surprisingly, we only had one man down when Yonna ended up on her butt on the track. (And no boys, there were no naked girls rolling around in the mud ..our wet weather training was all above board). New experiences were seeing forest crabs scuttling about the forest floor, trying "Gu" gel and sports drinks, and Kirsty trialling gastrolyte (ugghh) with thanks to Dr Ange for the suggestion. Not a pretty sight by the end of it all - shoes, socks and pants needed to be wrung out and a hot shower the only cure for the drenching from the rain. This training was a great indication of the dedication of the team. Maybe we should have called ourselves the Bush Bashing Babes?! More adventures to be posted!

A blister-free training session.. yay! 01 December

In our latest training session, we tackled the grade 3 hills of leg number 4, from Silvan to Olinda in the Dandenong Ranges. Depsite the muddy tracks and steep hills, this was probably our favourite of the trail legs so far because of the beautiful scenary. I wonder if we'll still be thinking that after over 10 hours of walking on the first day..?

Team Bootie Camp breaks the $1000 barrier! 25 November

Team Bootie Camp wish to thank everyone for their amazing support of Oxfam Australia so far and the physical challenge we have set ourselves. We are considering "uping" our target fundraising goal as you've all been so awesome and it's still early days yet. We've got another training session planned this Sunday so stay posted for an update next week. Fingers crossed no blisters for anyone this time!

A big thank you goes out to Con for donating $20 and his team at LPGas1 who have donated $100. We really appreciate your generosity!

Thank you to "anonymous" for our very first donation!! 18 November

As promised, a special thank you goes out to "anonymous" for their kind donation and getting the ball rolling on our fundraising efforts. We think you're being very cheeky for not revealing your name given that we said we would dedicate a post just to you. Nevertheless, we thank you for your generosity and awesomeness!

Bootie Camp Training Officially Started 17 November

post image

We have in fact completed two training sessions already. The first was from the starting point to check point 1 (12.5km). The second was completed just yesterday which was from CP1 to CP3. This was supposed to be 21.5km, but we took a wrong turn and ended up climbing a really steep hill which we didn't need to and in total walked 23km! As you can imagine, we were pretty sore towards the end but we survived the trek, no one spat the dummy and spirits were undoubtedly high with a sense of achievement.

Bootie Camp Website Launched 15 November

Welcome to our team website for the Oxfam Trailwalker 2009 held on 27 - 29 March 2009. Our team is made up of Aimii, Erin, Kirsty and Yonna. We're all close friends from highschool (fondly referred to back in the days as Mouldy Twisties). So you ask whatthe?! to a 100km walk in 48hours! Well we decided to take on this challenge for a number of reasons: 1) It's for a fantastic cause, Oxfam, who you can read more about at their website http://www.oxfam.org.au/. They are a community-based aid and development charity running programs throughout Australia and overseas. 2) We thought it was a great excuse to get together on a regular basis to catch up on all the gossip, whilst getting fit at the same time (some might argue we could do this over coffee and cake but where's the challenge in that?) 3) We hesitated at the start but realised it would be an amaing once-in-a-life time experience that we couldn't pass up. And what better way to do this than with a bunch of friends that we've known for ages and have seen through the ups and downs of highschool, Year 9 camp food poisoning, boy germs turn first kisses, VCE stresses and successes, and emotion charged dramas in an all-girls highschool (no further explanation required).
