We came, we blistered, we conquered!
It's now officially AO (after Oxfam). What excuse will we use now to neglect our loved ones, our homes, our work, but not our food intake? It's been a wild and bumpy ride but we finally made it, sprinting over the finish line towards our family and the bubbly. As Lou said, as we wandered in a state of delirium along O'Shannassy bloody Aqueduct, "there's pain and then there's Champagne". A big thank-you to our marvellous support crew who were an extremely welcome sight at each checkpoint. John, Mike and Pete were there with chairs, hot towels and cups of tea. Carly and Molly with delicious hot soup and cake and Olivia "magic fingers" with a foot massage (a big ask considering what our feet had been up to!) The thought of seeing you all helped us get to each checkpoint. A lovely way for Ange to spend her birthday, walking up the side of a mountain with hundreds of tired, smelly, grouch strangers but she seemed to really enjoy it. Patti and Lou say they will never do it again but they could be just putting on airs to be intersting. Well done to all. We were, we are, and will strive to always be High Maintenance.

serious carb loading
Friday night saw the committed members of team 480 trudging up the side of Mt Dandenong AGAIN only this time with head torches. Although we are a cohesive, inclusive, supportive team; illumination envy was rife. Modesty forbids me to advertise but I think it's fair to say that Liz had the brightest star. Special mention goes to Patti and her special luminary cap. The compulsory post-walk rehydration and information sharing session was also illuminating with Mike's very special flow chart and predited checkpoint schedule. John has his instructions and I think we are all very happy to have Molly and Carly on board to feed and cossett us. Yes: I did say cossett and I don't shy away from it. We've said it before and we'll say it again: we are High Maintenance.

Exclusive dinner party fundraiser
So you think you can eat? Buy a $10.00 raffle ticket to go into our draw to win an exclusive dinner party for 10 people. We will come to your house, cook for you and your friends and even clean up afterwards! Labour is no problem for us: we are the collective parents of 14 children. Patti has a menu in mind, Liz is planting gourmet greens, Lou is playing at being sommelier and Ange is going to give the stylists at Martha stewart something to think about. We can even supply some friends if you don't have enough. Just buy a raffle ticket and we will do the rest. When we've stopped walking....

Big Walk
Well done to team High maintenance who put in a solid training walk on Sunday. Those five hours gave us time to finalise our fund raising plans, our dietary needs for the walk and which undies to wear on the big day. It also gave us plenty of time to admire Patti's new equipment. No she didn't go off for a "freshen up" over the Christmas break but she did purchase a fine hydration pack and new shoes. The team were grateful for the support of Mike who was an inspiring motivator and importantly, remembered the car keys so we didn't have to walk home. The all - important post training de-brief lunch in Kallista was delicious and a big thank-you to the lovely waitress at the deli who kept the tea pot full. Next weekend we up the ante and tackle checkpoint 3 to Wandin North. Stay tuned for details of our movie night and dinner party raffle.

strategic planning meeting after attending the info night
We have firmed up our plan: 1. Finish together as a team 2. Don't get blisters 3.Let's not put off until tomorrow what we really should finally get around to doing right now. After one more glass of wine.

let the training begin.
Our first foray on the track was on the girls weekend away at Tatong. Some excellent forward strategic planning was workshopped and valuable gains were made in the vital areas of hydration and carbohydrate loading. A lively brainstorming session saw the genesis of specific and exacting benchmarks for our support team. They would need to be at the top of their game. Sensitive and responsive. Creative and versatile. Flexible yet able to work to a strict timeline and cater to our every whim. It would be quite good if they were South American and in their early twenties but we were willing to be open minded. Although we struggled to find a support crew to live up to such lofty standards, our team name suddenly became obvious: WE WERE HIGH MAINTENANCE! Thank you to Shane, Fred, Marie and Julie who have already shown us great support. from High Maintenance: The team that's worth it!

High Maintenance: The team that's worth it!
Between us we've worn through our fair share of shoe leather in our time, rushing up and down hospital corridors, chasing after children, leaping around netball courts. It's time to put the miles in for a good cause. It's time to lift our game, back ourselves and fight the good fight. We need to stay the distance and go that extra yard. It's the one percenters that make the difference. Life is not a spectator sport. We need to stand up and be accountable and check out what sort of cattle we have in the paddock. We don't want to be there at the end and have anything left in the tank. We're gonna give it our all. we're gonna put in 110%. There's no "I" in team. We'll stand shoulder to shoulder and throw everything we have at it and then some. When the tough questions are asked, we want to be ready with the answers. It's all about committment and a willingness to put your body on the line. We have the belief. We have the ability. We just need a good pre-season.
