The Kangaroos are coming to get us 27 October

Churchill National Park (CP 1) to Lysterfield Lake (CP 2). We set off around dusk for the short 9km walk from CP1 were our last walk left us to CP2 at Lysterfield Lake. Shortly into the walk we came across a grey kangaroo munching on some grass just a few metres off the track. We became a little distracted spending the next 10mins or so trying to get the perfect photo of the roo. Moments later we spotted another 4 all close by and again got a little camera happy. Realising that time was creeping on, we packed the camera away and proceeded on. We soon realised that the first sighting of kangaroos was no chance as Price (using her finely tuned safari game spotting skills) continually pointed out kangaroos either hinding in the bushes or blindly obviously sitting in the middle of the walking track (Berkefeld still struggled with trying to spot even the most obvious ones). Though it has to be said, Lyons and Price' carry-on that they thought they were going to be attacked by the mother kangaroo when the walked between it and its joey was nothing short of embarrassing. Berkefeld had warned us about the large hill on the 2nd section but I think we were all a little surprised by just how steep it actually hill was. We puffed and panted our way up, Wong taking the lead to reach the peak first. The view was great at the top but it was very windy. A couple of shots and we were on our way again, happy that it was all downhill from there on in. Spurned on by the thought of Mexican awaiting us after the walk we picked up the pace and made it to CP2 in 2 hours. The crowd at Lysterfield lake provided some amusement for us and all in all it was a very enjoyable walk.

Official training walk no. 1 - Jells Park to Check point 1 25 October

Training has started. We set off for our first "official" training walk on Saturday 18th October, starting at Waverly Park we headed to the 100kim starting point at Jells Park We started out well, and made it to Jells Park in reasonable time. It was a little concerning when so soon into the official track that we discovered how bad we were at map reading. Perhaps it was this or just pure good luck that we managed to stumble across the Farmers' Market and thought it such good coincidence that we really should check it out. 4 apples later and we munched our way back on track. We made it to the first checkpoint in a little over 3 hours which we decided we were pretty happy with, especially given we'd probably walked an extra km in misguided directions from the chief navigator for the day (not mentioning any names, Berkefeld).
