CP4 Olinda Reserve to CP5 Silvan Reservoir - return 03 January

As highlighted last week, I wanted to walk a little farther without inconveniencing my family, so I walked the trail between Olinda and Silvan Reservoir, today 3 Jan. Nice to walk on a trail and not tracks. There were a few tracks, but mostly wide trails (see picture - Track 13). The trail was a pretty steep decent and continual downhill trend for most of the walk. Just made it harder on the return leg. Didn't get lost this time. Spoke to around 7 teams, walking one way or the other, all Oxfam training. 3 1/2 hours for the round trip of 16klm. Had 20 minutes at Silvan, might not be so lucky of 'the' walk. We have our big team walk next weekend (Sun 11 Jan), 21 klm from Jells park to Lysterfield Lake. Looking forward to it and hope to see every-one at the picnic. Jack
CP3 Grants Picnic Ground to CP4 Olinda Reserve 30 December

Great to walk the track (Sat 27/12) and test bed the walking poles. Was not too sure on using the poles, at first, however after Clematis Track and Hacketts Road (see picture), the walking poles are my new best friend. I won't leave home without them. Good to check the map instructions. Seems some of the landmarks have changed since print, always a challenge. We have to remember to turn 'right' onto Lloyds Track after Monument Track. You have a 50/50 chance of getting it wrong, guess what ;-) Great day and good weather and I met the family for lunch in Olinda. Took 3 hours for the 12klm. Not bad timing considering the amount of time taken to stop and read map instructions (get lost, once) and talk to other trailwalkers, park rangers, and locals. What a great atmosphere. Planning on walking CP4 to CP5 Silvan Reservoir and back (16klm), this week-end. And guess what...the walking poles will again be with me. I love my walking poles. Jack
Join the Aussie Frogs while they train on the trail on the 11-Jan 20 December

On the 11 January, we are going to walk the first 21km of the Oxfam walk and we’d like you to join us for the whole 21km, part of it or just the picnic at the end. Your choice. You probably don’t know it yet but walking or having a picnic with the Aussie Frogs is a real privilege so we would appreciate a small (or not small) donation to Oxfam through our web page if you haven’t done it yet. All donations to Oxfam are tax deductible. Just keep the receipt! WHAT : walking the first 21km of the Oxfam walk with the Aussie Frogs. This should take about 4 hours + stops. No need to stay together the whole way. The main goal is to have a picnic together at the end! WHEN: Sunday 11 January 8am. WHERE: from the start to CP2 – Melway 108D3. Hope you can make it. Have a great Christmas and New Year. Isabelle
First group training this morning 13 December
We did our first group training this morning... under heavy rain the whole 3 hours. Unfortunately Jack could not make it this time because I understood that under the rain, Jack schrinks :-)). Next training on the 11-Jan on the track. Merry Xmas to everyone. Aussie Frogs
