Our training so far 06 January

If the A team (as we like to be known) were to be known for anything other than their athletic prowess, it would be for juggling. Juggling priorities and commitments, that is. But despite the demands of work, family, Christmas, mowing lawns, housework, and all the other complexities that comes with being of the brown cardigan age, we finally got together as a team for a couple of sessions. Unknown to most inner-city dwellers, there are secret paths that would deceive even the experienced into thinking that they were in the bush. For 45 mins from the doorstep of Honeywell in Abbotsford, Melbourne we ran up and down dirt tracks, through tall grasses, ducked fallen trees and clambered across rocks. We've learnt how to pace, how to run on different terrain and most importantly how to keep together as a team. We've got a few goals to chalk up too: James has found that he can run 10km, Clark has dropped his resting heart rate by almost 10 beats per minute and Nick takes everything in his stride despite sleeping in three hour intervals (aka Gitmo treatment or new born baby). Melissa's... well... running. We are all well on our way to success, with sound fitness base, now it's time to get some miles in those legs!

What a great day we had on the pre-Christmas shopping tour. Everyone arrived at the meeting point (if somewhat a little frantic - lots of road works that day) ready to hit those outlet shops with gusto. We started the day exploring the back streets of Reservoir and Fairfield (interesting where some of those shops hide themselves). Lunched at Mama Trattoria’s on Victoria St and then after an hour of excellent food and conversation, the group was eager to start of the second part of the shopping event. This time Collingwood and Brunswick were targeted, with the day ending in a gorgeous little shop on Lygon St. The day finished back where we started with all shoppers adequately exhausted and loaded up with bargain buys. The shoppers did their part to stimulate the economy as well as raising funds for Oxfam. We managed to raise $377.20 for Oxfam. Both of the Honeywell teams would like to thank all of those that came along to support Oxfam on the day.

Introducing Team Alpha: Nick charms his kite surfing mates with a smile (far left corner) while James just shows them how it's done (middle picture- not the guy with the dreads). Clark (third from right in group pic- the dude with the shades) keeps the team together with a chilled attitude and Melissa keeps the heat on racing Mongolian ponies (bottom right corner).
