last big training walk
We did our last big training walk which was 42km. We trekked the Border track from Binna Burra to OReillys and back again. It was a pretty hard slog as it was really muddy most of the way and we finished well and truly in the dark. A couple of snarls at each other, fighting off killer leeches, fending of bastard prickles and a bit of bush bashing and we made it. We are feeling pretty sorted can't wait for the actual walk to rock around. This picture is one of the lookouts. It really is spectacular countryside and we were pleased that even though it was hazy, we were out of the clouds at this one. Cheers Kellie, Janenne and Paula

the training continues
Kellie and I tackled the Coomera Circuit and Daves Circuit in Binna Burra to clock up another 21km training trek. All good except we were grossed out with one leech incident and freaked out with one snake incident, both which required some cursing of nature and explecative outbursts, but just like the good gals we are, we soldiered on. All in all a pretty great days walking in the beautiful Lamington National Park and it is seriously beautiful so we are very lucky to have it in our backyard as a training ground. Cyclone Hamish is playing havoc with Janenne's training schedule, but she did hoof it up and down Red Arrow in Cairns a couple of times and might have to switch to swimming as cross training if it doesn't stop raining soon. Gilksy has been cruising through some 25km walks so all in all we are feeling pretty good around our training prep. Between us we have discovered that one hates the flat, one hates the uphill, one hates the downhill so we are set for a pretty constant battle with emotions for the full 100km. (Gilksey, don't forget your ipod!!) A few more 'sprints' around "The Mongrel" and "Mother of the Mongrel' and we will be well and truly leg fit. Getting excited!!

The Best Birthday Ever!!
Janenne confessed that this was the best birthday ever and she wished she was bushwalking, fighting off leeches and scrapping mud off her bum every year. She also didn't mind at all that we were drinking water and not wine and has promised a suitable, similar event for Kellies and my birthday too........

walking on Janenne's Birthday
We went for a 19km hike from OReilleys on the coast. The Tooloona Falls circuit really is a spectacular walk with quite a few creek crossings and of course some beautiful falls along the way. The track was pretty muddy and hard going in some spots so we reckon that 19km in the bush is like 30 or so on the flat so agreed we were super sporty spices for the day. So why the photo of the brilliant blue Yabbie??? This little creature created a pretty major distraction on our first creek crossing and put my foot well and truly in the drink. Nothing like walking for 15km with a squishy wet foot. We saw heaps of these suckers along the way and a long way up the mountains from creeks so we reckon they'd do pretty well in a 100km trek. They're just a bit too feisty to join our team and if we weren't in a National Park, there was suggestions of boiling the little blighters and eating them with a garlic sauce.
