Over The Line!

Well, we all made it! 4 x100KMS and what a journey! ....... Matt & John were steering the ship in the early parts as Craig & Ady had too much adrenaline running through their systems & needed restraining. This was to show later as we passed teams who went out hard earlier & we slowly crept up the leader board. Nikki's advice that "hills are an expensive waste of energy" certainly hit the mark so running downhills & much of the flats while walking the hills kept us in good shape. Matt was a little miffed when the others kept needing pisstops. But it was not before long that he joined the rest. There were a few hiccups with blisters needing attention quite early but after several strappings, they were well managed. John worried us when he became really cold at CP7 & had to rug up with jacket, gloves, hat etc. but after the last CP8, and a rich Hot Chocolate, he set the pace to tackle the unknown last 9.5kms. We ended up passing 6 or 7 teams in the hills who cheered us on to the finish. We were still running & after 2 HUGE hills & uneven tracks, we came out onto the last downhill & could finally see the lights of the finishline. We emerged onto the field & ran to the line as a 4 to finish in 18hours 29minutes. We were the 51st team out of 714 & we were stoked! I guess we couldn't quite believe it as we just wanted to finish somewhere under 20 hours. We couldn't have made it without our support team of Tamsin, Nicki, Jo & Megan. They were fantastic & provided us with all that we needed all day to keep us going. Thankyou to Chris who was on his bike & on foot from start to finish with his camera. And to Fee who was able to give us all a pep up massage at CP8 at a very crucial time. Another HUGE thankyou to Clyde Davenport from 2XU who supplied us with our team running gear. Not only do you have to perform, but you also have to look good & be comfortable. And most of all, thankyou to everyone who has donated & to those who are yet to donate.

Team Meeting

Tonight we had our final team meeeting at Craig & Tam's before the Big Day Out in 2 days time. So we're ready to go! .....well nearly.....Matt has a little hiccup with a bout of tonsilitis & he's hit it with a dose of anti-biotics. Nothing's going to stop him now! John is bringing his study notes for his MICA exams so we'll be able to test him out along the way, in between the running sections. Ady is bringing his ideas for the new Olympic Park football stadium turf which is due to be laid in November. And we'll all be keeping a look out for those spiders along the way. The one's with the blue eyes! So wish us luck!

18 March

Warrandyte Paella Night at the Dugans.

Well we all braved the rain but it was a huge success. Andrew & Freya Dugan opened their house for a Paella night and we weren't disappointed. Andrew's HUGE Paella was served up to more than 50 friends to help our team. Andrew certainly cooked up a storm. And so did the heavens as we were nearly flooded out. Wendy & John retreated to the spa & the place rocked until after 3am. Special thanks to Freya & Andrew & to everyone who came & supported us. We are now fit & raring to go with everyone out on the road together. Matt is back from the shadows of Everest & Ady has put the Ozzie Open behind him now getting Collingwood ready for a big season. John has his head in the books trying to juggle his DipEdDegree in MICA paramedical procedure. And Craig is on the bike, tennis court, running track recovering from his 50th. And so the countdown to the Trailwalker is underway making sure ankles aren't sprained, hammy's are strained & our legs are ready to go.

12 February

FEB 12TH

We have all been fairly busy over the past month with holidays etc & while Matt has been busy scaling Uluru & pounding the Nullabor, the rest of us quietly went about our training schedule. While we have all been to different parts of Victoria we are now back & knuckling down. All except Matt, who never lets a chance slip away, and is currently in Nepal trekking his way to Everest base camp. We had a team meeting at Craig's 50th party & Matt's wife Nikki (Road Crew) filled in for him accompanied by our managers, Freya & Andrew Dugan.
