The noon update. David Hayes: enjoyed the tougher course and is now gone to the physio. /// Andreas Tilch: joined the team at the last minute and instead of doing a 35 km run this week end he did 100 kms. Well, what can we say..? She is as happy as ever.

Raised to the challenge...
A remarkable achievement by the team... Angels and Demons crossed the line in 17 hours and 22 minutes in what was a harder course than anticipated; finishing in 26th overall position. This result compared to previous years is fabulous. In 2009, Angels and Demons finished overall 31st (16 hrs and 24 min); in 2009 the team finished 63rd (19 hrs and 13 min). /// We would like to thank our support crew - Di Synnot and Jane Lennon - for being such a fabulous company and for seeing us in several spots and providing the team with yummy foods. The support crew even found the time to entertain other teams... ///. A huge thanks to our sponsors and donors who supported us in this noble cause. /// So, the legend of the Angels and Demons continue...!

At the 11th hour...
Something had to happen just as we approached the start... Angel's recovery was not speedy enough to make him feel ready for the event, so he opted to retire. After a visit to the doc, it became clear that not even a miracle would let him embark on his third Oxfam trailwalker. The team faced the possiblity of not being able to participate in the event and, fortunately, Andreas Tilch was readily available and willing to step in. So the journey of Angels and Demons's third trailwalker event is ready to start. Our fabulouso support crew (Di and Jane) have been busy preparing food and organising other supplies for the team. Thank you to our sponsors who contributed to our quest.

Are we nuts?
Absolutely. Totally. Here we are, four days to go and things are beginning to happen, e.g. cooking is happening, batteries are packed. THE event is over 100 hours away. /// Imagine the feeling, being in the car to Wheelers Park, all of a sudden we realise we have forgotten an item that is necessary. Ay ay ay!!! It is a fact of life that something is bound to be left unattended, somewhere. We are all feeling excited and the idea that we are just about there./// Greetings to all to our fellow Oxfam Trailwalkers!!!

Final countdown...
5 days to go... the girls had a leisured ten kilometre run this evening. David has done enough gym work for the combined team. Angel is recovering from a chest infection - pumping up medicine after medicine, plus home remedies./// Now for the psychological preparation..../// A big cheer to Gabi who ran the Paris Marathon today. Also a big cheer to Rodrigo who is about to embark on the Santiago Half Marathon./// /// We shall keep as a surprise the stunning shirts the team will be wearing on the day./// /// Pic: Letterboxes, Hacketts Road. Not long to go!

Reliving [training] memories
That week-end of intense raining in Melbourne... Yes, early March. Remember? Well on the the morning of Sunday the 7th of March, we had a running training session that covered the Yarra river. We were lucky that we managed to run our distance with little rain. The picture that accompanies this note was taken from the corner of Anderson Street in South Yarra looking towards the path that goes to the Apostles in The Tan. /// The path covered in leaves and it felt magical and yet concerning the havoc caused throughout Melbourne. What a memorable that week end that was. We finished our training session with the satisfaction of a well accomplished run and was followed by our weekly ritual of coffee and muffin./// Excitement for the big day is phenomenal.

One week to go... and feeling excited!
There is no doubt that we are excited about the event for next week. We are getting ready with our last minute preparations and our support crew is equally ready - Jane and Di are experienced and very motivated! /// We would like to thank our supporters, friends and family who have encouraged us along the journey to this crazy yet fulfilling quest. The Art of the Interview III - Kate
2010 Oxfam Trailwalker – Why? Preamble: God these things are excruciating but here goes. Answer: Because I am a masochist./// What are you most likely to be thinking at kilometre 75? Do Bagelicious deliver?/// Is it Mt Little Joe or Mt LittleJoe??(Warburton, 5kms before finish lane) Can't remember, it's too traumatic to recall./// Leaving aside Guns and Roses, three songs you are listening to now? Mads - Celebration; Can you feel it - Michael Jackson; and of course the Lily - Back to the start./// One event and one person that has inspired you to the cruelty of the 100 km? Looks like the girls are doing it in tribute to Jane./// Any injuries, now? None so far./// One drop that you found comforting in 2009? Why? No I am off the grog 9th day of Feb Fast; sadly can't even recall my last drink - it seems so long ago. Maybe Peach Schnapps. (Mmmmmm yummy )///

The Art of the Interview II - David
2010 Oxfam Trailwalker – Why? To beat our time and listen to Kate's classic 1 liners. /// What are you most likely to be thinking at kilometre 75? Hopefully that the body holds up./// Is it Mt Little Joe or Mt LittleJoe??(Warburton, 5kms before finish lane) Did not know there was one/// Leaving aside Guns and Roses, three songs you are listening to now? John Mayer song, Black Eyed Peas and Kings of Leon(can not remember song titles)/// One event and one person that has inspired you to the cruelty of the 100 km? I like a challenge and as stated previously-to beat our time. /// Any injuries, now? Getting over tendon injury in left foot?/// One drop that you found comforting in 2009? Why? No I am off the grog

The Art of the Interview I - Gin
2010 Oxfam Trailwalker – Why? Because Jane can't. /// What are you most likely to be thinking at kilometre 75? Where is Jane? /// Is it Mt Little Joe or Mt LittleJoe??(Warburton, 5kms before finish lane) No idea, but if I am travelling 100 kilometre surely it can only be BIG MT JOE./// Leaving aside Guns and Roses, three songs you are listening to now? F### you, Lily Allen, Lily Allen and Lily Allen I never remember names of songs only sounds/// One event and one person that has inspired you to the cruelty of the 100 km? Jane not competing this year, Jane competing last year and witnessing her amazing determination if I have half of her determination it should put me in good stead to finish! /// Any injuries, now? Getting over tendon injury in left foot? Sore glut, sore legs, sore feet, sore back...gee wizz I have no chance even with the determination if I continue to go on like that. No injuries! /// One drop that you found comforting in 2009? Why? I didn't enjoy 1 drop in 2009 there were many more and I find the first drop of wine only starts to give the taste, you have to go back for a second.

We are training … hard!!!
It is amazing to think that in four weeks' time we will be on the trail. As we write this note there is an element of excitement, allegory and trepidation about the event. Excitement, because 12 months later, we are about to return to the event having a sense of destiny and having past experience of being in the trail. Allegory, because we had a film night in the company of good friends… We raised $315! Thank you kindly for the support… sorry the film was a bit slow! Trepidation, because we have not trained on the track at all this time. Have no fear; we are more determined than ever to succeed. We have concentrated our training efforts running along the Coastal Path (from Brighton to Mordialloc) and the Capital Trail (concentrating on the hills around Clifton Hill, Kew). We are beginning to like the bends around the Yarra! Pic: The team before the start of the event in 2009.

We are alive and training well!!
We are back and determined to excel in the 2010 Oxfam Trailwalker! As we prepare for our third consecutive trailwalker we have a sense of confidence in raising to the challenge. / / / Oxfam Trailwalker is an excellent vehicle to show our spirit of solidarity to support development in impoverished countries. We would like to encourage others to support a good cause by pledging a donation to Oxfam Australia. We have faith and believe in the work that Oxfam Australia is doing in the Asia-Pacific region. / / / Our 2010 team Oxfam Trailwalker comprise one change in the team composition. Virginia Neill (above, Melbourne Marathon October 2009) is replacing Jane Lennon. Welcome Gin!! / / / Finally, our training is progressing well so far… hmm, well, we are confident we will be to improve or maintain our 2009 performance when we completed the event in 16h22mins.
