Kicking it up a gear - by Damien 05 January

Team RAD is now in full flight, doing fortnightly sessions together. This is hard hard work, but our personalities complement each other well (being friends for about 15 years will do that!) so we're keeping each other motivated when the going gets tough. I'm even giving up alcohol until the 4 of us cross the finish line. For some unknown reason, it always seems to be really warm and sunny when we do a long walk, just to add to the challenge (maybe if we get out even more Melbourne will finally have a good summer!) New shoes are being broken in (oh the blisters!), strategies are being formed (we can drive between checkpoints, yeah?), and all 4 of us are now wearing well concealed lycra shorts (we have reputations to think of) This weekend, we'll do a minimum of 30km, which works out to about 7 hours of walking when you get down to it. Things are progressing nicely, I think. As always, thanks to our sponsors. We'll be hurting on the big weekend in March, but it'll be worth it.

Our first corporate sponsor! 24 October

Norm May, the CEO of Expo Solutions Group, has aggreed to match the first $1000 of donations dollar for dollar! Thanks Norm, you're a champion!

How are we preparing? -by Damien 24 October

It's probably not a bad idea to let you good people know what exactly Team RAD are doing to prepare for this meandering stroll, so here goes... Once a month, Darren, Wayne, Craig and I are getting together to tackle some of the actual course stages, trying to add an additional one each time. On the in between weeks, we're doing our own versions of training, be it climbing the 1000 steps, or holding the couch up... As you've read, in September we started at the start and just walked to CP1. Easy, it was all flat and paved. Last weekend we got together to walk from CP1 to CP3, which was 23.5km. Or would've been if I had have printed the correct course maps! Stage 1 and CP1 are 2 very different things...Fortunately we had Darren the master navigator on hand to to steer us to Lysterfield lake using the stars, a divining rod, and some entrails he "found" After being run out of Churchill Park by the resident Kangaroos, we had a quick snack at Lysterfield Lake and set off for CP3 We managed to keep a good pace on this stage, and discovered that protein cakes aren't very good as cakes, but make excellent projectiles to spur team mates on... The ascent from Tecoma to Belgrave is a killer. The sun had just come out to warm things up to the low 30's when we started this hill climb up a steep, narrow gravel track, then you hit Belgrave, walk a little downhill and have to do it all again on the way to the National Park entry. The quote of the walk for this section had to be: Me - (answering a query on the time) - It's 5 to 1 Darren - What?! It's a 5:1 incline? 20% Is pretty steep. Me - Nah, I was telling the guys the time... and this is a 23% slope... Next month we'll tackle 3 stages, covering around 28 kays. Darren won't be joining us, since he's off overseas to have a casual mountain stroll to Machu Pichu. I think we'll let him off this time. Oh, and I'll try to print the right maps next time!

Thanks people. - by wayne 23 October

It's good to see people donating already, keep up the good work, lets see if we can smash that target. Marv, how about you lay off the cake for a while, it will do you no good.

Sponsors! Woohoo! 23 October

Thanks to everyone who has sponsored the team already! Keep checking back for updates on our preparation!

Well the hardest stage was Conquered - by Craig Hunter 23 October

What a walk. 4.75hrs, 23k's, Church Hill Park (Lysterfield) to Grants Picnic Ground Belgrave, 400metre elevation…….and sore legs the next day. What have we got ourselves into :) I say Bring it on

Whose idea was this?! - by Damien 13 October

Oh yeah, it was mine... Ok, so the team has been rustled up, and we're already psyching up for our 2nd training session. Stage one was a doddle, so this weekend we're doing stages 2 and 3 - Churchill Park to Grant's Picnic Ground. In the words of Jeremy Clarkson, "How hard can it be?"... what? It's 23 kays and there's hills this time?? Whose bloody idea was this? Oh yeah...
