Here we come, walking down the street...

post image

It seemed like everyone we knew was doing something fun this weekend, getting out of town and/or attending a music festival. The dedicated team however got together for a training session. We started at CP2 and finished at CP5 (a mere 38km). Michelle's parents were kind enough to meet us with lunch and more supplies which was a massive help. The weather was mostly kind to us, it was mild and there were only a few light showers which was a nice change from the recent extreme days we have been training in. We all felt that our general level of fitness is improving on the trail. It certainly was a bonus to have the Monday off to recover! The next training session as a team won't be until Easter due to everyone's busy schedule but we are all committed to keeping the personal training up.

Back from holidays and back to the grind

Hi, I'm back from 2 wonderful weeks in Thailand. Life was pretty tough there. Great food, good shopping, lying on the beach and lots of Thai massages. It wasn't all work and no play though. I got up every morning in Phi Phi island and walked up to the Viewpoint and back before breakfast. It was a good hour roundtrip with a steep hill and a million dollar view! Now I'm back in the real world and gearing up for the next 6 weeks of training until Trailwalker. The team is hitting the trail this Sunday for another stroll. Kiia

Another Sunday stroll

post image

The team hit the trail again on Sunday 14 February starting at Jells Park and making our way through checkpoint 1 (Churchill National Park) and 2 (Lysterfield Lake Picnic Area). We finished about 3km shy of checkpoint 3, completing 30km. We saw a snake not far into the walk which made us overly alert at every rustle! Not deterred, we are actually enjoying discovering new species on the trail. Kiia is departing for a 2 week holiday to Thailand which will include alot of walking around the capital while the other team members will continue walking on the trail and their usual training activities.

Superleg Sunday - another scorcher!

post image

On Sunday 31 January we walked from Woori Yallock to the Warburton Golf Club whilst getting some great advice from the lovely Oxfam people. It was a hot day and were lucky to have the Oxfam folk on the trail supplying us with much needed water. On average we each consumed 10L of fluids, 4 sandwiches, a few flies and walked 20kms. A great effort! Although we could have done without the flies. :D

18 January

Training session 3 (from Launching Place to finish - approx 22km)

post image

On Sunday 17 January we set out on our third training session. Thankfully the weather conditions were a lot milder than last time! The walk along the aqueduct was relaxed and we made it to the Warburton for a nice spot of lunch by the river. We continued on the last part of the track after lunch which was a bit more challenge. Overall the walk certainly wasn’t as gruelling as our last session in 38 degree heat! Plus we were equipped with more than enough food and supplies this time. We have scheduled our next team training session for 31 January.

Walking the Trail Checkpoint 3 - 5 (25km!)

post image

We set out on Wednesday 30 December for a long walk, which was much needed after Christmas. It was a very hot day and we found ourselves running out of water and food quickly. It was a good lesson on how much food and water we need to take on longer distances. The first part of the trail was challenging. Hacketts Road was a killer! We completed the walk in 8 hours. The heat slowed us down alot and we were all very weary afterwards. Surprisingly we all recovered quickly and were ready for new year eve celebrations!

Tackling the Trail Checkpoint 4 - 5 (14km!!)

post image

Here we are on our first team walk out in the Dandenongs. The track was tough in some parts, lots of (steep) hills and the ground was a little unstable. We were warned about the steep decline on this trial but seeing (and experiencing) was truly believing! We managed it in 3.5 hours and went for a well deserved lunch (plus cake and coffee) afterwards. It was great to finally get on the track. Next time we plan to walk checkpoint 3 - 5 (25km).

We are flattered by the amount of support we have received so far! Thank you very much. :D We have all been doing our own training, particularly hitting the Tan at lunchtime as much as possible. Currently we are busy planning fund-raising events as we aim to reach $3,000. We are organising a Christmas raffle and have managed to get some great prizes donated so far. Stay tuned...
