last updates...!
dear all, it's been a while! again! just a quick update this time. our hearts are pounding, the date is nearing...can we do it? yes we can! 1) the night walk was fantastic. we will always remember the young owl (owlet? oooh, i believe this isn't even a made-up word) who tried very hard to i) dodge our headlights in the most peculiar manner 2) let us know we were going the wrong way. why didn't we listen to the wise little one...? the night was cool. no drop bears, spiders and the like. it was all hunkydory. and what better way to end it then with a supper @ chapelli's, 4am saturday morning? 2) checkpoint 7 is...ok. not sure if it'll be ok after, say, 95km, but on its own, more or less..ok. hubris, strike us not! again, the sheer determination and willpower of LL does not fail to astound us. here's hoping we can all cope with adversity should any arise during the actual event. we have also devised a scheme of getting SL aka PH up the hill. it involves an elaborate process of man holding stick. stick over carrot, you understand. 3) for our last and final group walk, we chose to take in the somewhat-monotonous scenery of the warburton trail. some ipods and some contemplative thinking should take our minds off the (lack of) terrain/undulation/meanderings. all is good folks! we will rally ourselves together - support crew and all - for a last hurrah, and then do what we signed up to do. walk. far. for oxfam. happy days ahead, and see you on the other side, jalan jalan

night walk...
dear friends, foes and family, lend me your ears! thank you so, so much for your generous donations to our cause and for helping us inch (in leaps and bounds!) close to our target! we are truly very grateful... it's a couple of hours to our 1st night walk now, and there's an air of...apprehension, i guess, would be the way of putting it. i've heard about the spiders that come out at night, weaving with wild abandon beautifully intricate webs. i hope they are less expressive (of themselves, of their webs) this evening. on a more positive note, jalan jalan (sans moi. bad bad moi) participated in the 14.5k (i think, the distance keeps changing) run for the kids last weekend. it was all good and sunny, and they certainly looked like they enjoyed themselves. the week before, good weather produced good moods and we managed checkpoint 2-3 return without too much fuss. a couple more long walks, and then that's it for collective, physical training! the rest of the training...ah, it's all mind over matter. p.s: thanks LL for putting up the picture of all of us walking (and for it not being too big, we don't want to scare our sponsors into seeing what we really look like). yours till the end, jalan jalan

oh, autumn!
"Seasons of mists and mellow fruitfulness close bosom-friend of the maturing sun.." Ever since I was in school (and I'm sure like many others), I've always associated autumn with this poem by Keats, having not experienced the 4 seasons. Well now, how things have changed! For one, we, the walkers and support walkers, are definitely happy that the maturing sun is upon us. Gone, hopefully, are the hot, stick and energy-sapping days of olde. Welcome gentle light! I guess any slips on wet (autumn) leaves will engender much cooler responses, but till then, we walk onwards and...onwards. 2 weeks ago we did a challenging walk: besides getting lost looking for unmarked trails (the convenient, purple markings that others oxfam walkers usually leave mostly gone unnoticed), the terrain was rather unaccommodating, especially in relation to the steep descent of dame 'melba trek'. see, hacketts road is becoming much better, like in relation. Casualty no. 2 struck when one of our team-mates twisted her ankle, but boy did she walk galliantly on. I may have requested piggy-backing myself, tbh. We also welcomed back the 'return of the feet' and was pleased to have visitor SK acompany us, her whose feet have graced Mt. Everest. Last week, we returned to the familiar surrounds of the urban, walking a return trip from Port Melbourne to Sandringham and back. Over the 30k mark already (so says google maps) which can only be a good thing! Thanks for tuning in, and for your support...! Yours, with autumn leaves, Jalan Jalan

hiatus...part deux.
11) hacketts road is a morale breaker. but only because we haven't seen the 'final climb' yet. when we do, i'm sure hacketts road will look a lot more encouraging. in a "it's all relative" kind of way. i doubt it will get much flatter. 12) kangaroos are watching us watch them. so much for the first installment for the year folks. continue to watch this space, and please ask your family/friends/pets/acquaintances to donate to the cause. Unfailingly urs, jalan jalan

hiatus...on paper, not foot!
Dear everyone (yes, that includes YOU walkers, YOU support crew team members, and YOU our good sponsors)! there should be a comma after a salutation yes? And a full stop after an affirmative 'yes' statement? But we're all topsy turvy-like, hot and cold, blistered, burnt, and blossoming all at once! which is to say. we've not been updating this page much, but defo we've been walking our...you know, off. some interesting and not-so-interesting things that happened so far: 1) we walked 1000 steps again (twice! 2000 steps!), and the nearby lyrebird trail. climb. breathless. 2) ld is a super-duper support team power walker! 3) jc can wake up early if she wants to. on weekends. she also can orienteer. with a map. and some practice. 4) al has an eye on the outdoor gear galactical world. how does he manage to keep track of all these things?!? 5) we've had our first injury casulty: ly. damn u hard concrete walking ground! we are in the process of coaxing her back into the caress of the rain-soaked soft grounds of the trail. yummers! 6) ll is like the classiest and smartest dresser of our team (see 4) for logical sequence). she makes us look, ahem, professional. 7) at prefers to dress in clothing akin to her pjs. seems to work tho. no one has complained thus far. 8) sl is missing in action. we await her return with great anticipation. actually, we are anticipating "the return of her feet". 9) jd will be back soon too! and somehow, i have an *inkling* that our snacktime food will be getting just that bit more exciting when she returns. 9) ft, our support walker supremo, is very supreme. she also has very amusingly colourful language. just don't tell her i said that. 10) the trail is bone dry in places, and utterly luscious in others.

our 2nd walk...
Warm sunshine, cool breezes, glorious weather...on such a day in young December, we embarked on our 2nd walk along a short stretch of Port Philip Bay ---> Port Melbourne to St. Kilda City baths (and back). Sure. Ice-cream rewardeth those who seek it, but surely, what could be better than the sheer pleasure of a seaside walk amidst happy people? length of time: 2 hours distance: 10km (10%!) Photos. Yes. The 4 of us (together) are particularly a camera-shy phenomenon. Watch this space though!

We have started training...!
Dear Sponsors, We have gotten our training off the ground! Last Sunday, we took a short/wake-up walk up the 1000 steps/Kokoda trail walk in Mt. Dandenong, notwithstanding slightly wet and slippery conditions! Photos of us (take note) and our walk/s will be appearing soon. Check back soon! Yours, "Walk Walk"
